ATHLETICS AUCKLAND AT THE WATERFRONT HALF MARATHON
2018 AA Half Marathon Championships will be held at the Waterfront Half Marathon
Auckland: Athletics Auckland, the Regional Sporting Organisation charged with the development and promotion of athletics in Auckland, and Auckland based event organizer, Running Events, have teamed up to host the 2018 Athletics Auckland Half Marathon Championships.
The 2018 Championships will be held on April 8th, 2018, in conjunction with the Auckland Waterfront Half Marathon. Championship medals will be awarded for overall male and female performances and for top age group finishers.
Affiliated athletes who would like to compete in the 2018 championships are eligible for a $10 discount on race entry provided they use the voucher code supplied by AA at the time of registering. To be eligible for championship awards, the athlete must be a current AA registered athlete and record their AA membership number during the registration process.
The first ever Auckland Waterfront Half Marathon – which also features a 10K, 5K and Kids Dash – is expected to attract over 2,500 athletes to Auckland’s most iconic running location, Tamaki Drive. A full road closure of the waterfront section of Tamaki drive will be in effect throughout the event, with a half road closure used on the causeway to Mechanics Bay.
The flat course, long straights and generous dimensions of the route mean fast times are assured and many athletes will be peaking with the intention of scoring a personal best on what could be one of New Zealand’s fastest half marathon courses. The double out-and-back format means family and friends will be able to cheer on their champions frequently from the event hub in Mission Bay. An event app and live timing of every km point – a first for any half marathon event in Australasia – means fans and friends alike can follow the action virtually in real-time.
The Waterfront Half Marathon is also the Grand Finale of the five event, eight-month long Mizuno Auckland Half Marathon Series. Participants have been accumulating points at events in Devonport, Omaha, Orewa and Coatesville in the lead up to the finale where series champions will be presented with their trophies.
