Cross Country season - May news

ACA Relays (Incorporating the Southland Centennial Shield Relays)

ANZAC day saw the first Cross Country event of the season get underway. Just over 300 athletes were involved in the relays.

Congratulations to North Harbour Bays and ACA for winning the Senior Women's and Senior Men's races respectively. 

We now head into the busy part of the season in May with two Grand Prix events, three Secondary Schools Zone Championships, the Glen Eden Relays, the Athletics Auckland Half Marathon Champs and the Athletics NZ Half Marathon Championships and the Rotorua Marathon.

Auckland Grand Prix Series

The Auckland Grand Prix Series will once again be held over six races throughout the winter. In a change for 2015 the first race will be held at Pakuranga.

Race Schedule

  • Race 1 - Saturday 9th May - Lloyd Elsmore Park, Pakuranga
  • Race 2 - Saturday 16th May - Pukekohe A&P Showgrounds
  • Race 3 - Saturday 13th June - Barry Curtis Park, East Tamaki (Athletics Auckland Teams Race)
  • Race 4 - Saturday 27th June - Long Bay Regional Reserve
  • Race 5 - Saturday 18th July - Barry Curtis Park, East Tamaki (Athletics Auckland Cross Country Champs and Selection Trial for the National Championships)
  • Race 6 - Sunday 16th August - Venue TBC - (Athletics Auckland Road Championships and Selection Trial for the National Championships)

To be eligible for the series, athletes must run 5 out of the 6 races and in addition to that one of those races must either be the Athletics Auckland Cross Country Championships or the Athletics Auckland Road Championships.

If you want to enter for the series that is open and will close on Sunday 3rd May. Athletes that enter the series do receive a discount off the normal fee.

Athletics Auckland Half Marathon Championships

The first winter Championship - the Half Marathon Championships will be held in conjuction with the Huntly Half Marathon on Sunday 24th May. In a first for a long time medals will be presented on the day. We would like to thank Dion Jelly for allowing us to do so.
