The 51st Glen Eden 10 Mile race was held on Sunday 21st June in almost perfect conditions from the Glen Eden Athletics Club.
As predicted pre race favorite Jono Jackson (ACA) led from start to finish over the 10 mile course to make it 6 wins in a row. Jono had a lead of just over 1 minute at the half way point and eventually increased that lead to win by over 2 minutes and 25 seconds in an overall time of 54:59. In 2nd place was Stephen Day from Wellington Scottish and in 3rd place Nick Moore.
In the post race interview with Jono " I train on this course nearly every weekend so it's great having a tough race out here". Jono will now be building towards the Athletics New Zealand Cross Country Championships in August and the Auckland Marathon in November,
It was a different story in the women's race with Ashleigh Williams (ACA) and Hannah Barker (Pakuranga) running side by side for most of the race for the second week in a row. Hannah pushed it down the hills as Ashleigh tried to hold on. Ashleigh's finishing speed on the flat was too good for Hannah with Ashleigh taking the win by 2 seconds in a time of 65:00. In 3rd place was Takapuna's Carley Graham.
In the post race interview with Ashleigh " I'm getting ready for the triathlon season and building towards the Taupo Half Ironman again so its good to get a hard race under the belt"
A total of 102 athletes finished the 10 mile,
In the 5km fun run, first across the line was George Mawson in a time of 21:26 and the first female across the line was Abigail Edwards in 23:26.
