The World Masters Games are upon us and getting good media coverage. Athletics is one of 28 sports forming the largest sporting event by numbers Auckland has ever hosted.
On behalf of the Board we wish to recognise the huge efforts Karen Hinkley, the Track and Field and Cross Country Committees and the many other volunteers who have planned this and will be involved in putting on the Athletics events.
This started four years ago when some thought the expected numbers of entrants may not eventuate, however as time got closer the numbers have dramatically increased making this one of the largest World Masters Games ever. For a small sport in New Zealand we are participating and organizing one of the larger participation sports at these Games. This has created challenges for all concerned and it is a credit to those directly involved that they have risen to the occasion.
We encourage our members can get out to watch both the athletics and others sports of interest during the World Masters Games.
The Board wishes both volunteers and competitors all the best to enjoy a unique experience and once again thank you sincerely for your efforts. Have a great Games!
