Grade 10-11yr Team Challenge 2024

Preview – The Auckland Centre is bringing back a team competition for the grade 10/11yr age groups. We are looking to use the 3 established areas in the Auckland centre – Counties Manukau, Central / West Auckland and North Auckland to create the 3 teams of athletes (Outside centres can be invited to participate as well).

The event will be based on the successful Challenge day we trialed last year. The competition will start mid-morning and go through the day. At the completion of the competition there will be dinner for the athletes as well as a prize giving were the individual and team awards are presented to the athletes and teams.

The points for the competition are based on the 5 Star athletics scoring charts. All athletes receive a certificate at prize giving with their total points across their individual events determining which level of certificate they achieve.

The team awards are a based on a combined total of the individual awards for each team.

Who is this event for – This event is for any registered Grade 10/ 11yr athletes in the Auckland Centre. Note – the junior rules apply that is athletes who are aged 10/11yr on Dec 31^st 2023.

Date of competition – Tuesday 6^th February 2024 (Waitangi Day).

Venue -Mt Smart

Events  –  Individual – 60m, 100m, 300m, 1500m, 200m hurdles, 1000m Walk, Shot-put, Discus, Long Jump and High Jump.

–  Relays – 4x100m, 1000m sprint medley.

– The athletes will be able to enter 3 individual events. This can either be 2 track and 1 field event or 2 field events and 1 track event. Athletes will also be involved in 1 relay team.

Event Cost – $40 per athlete plus team competition tee shirt.

Team selection/training days – The teams will have a selection process and forms available for the athletes to complete and submit. Athletes will need to enter personnel best’s (PB) for each of their individual events on the entry forms. These Pb’s can come from events such as the Colgate Games, Counties Manukau Junior Championship, Auckland Junior Championship and McKinnon Shield events. These events can be from last season or this season.

Note – the results are for event selection.

Athletes will need to be competing in athletic events during the season to help with their selection which will be before the Xmas holidays.

There will be training days across November and December to assist the athletes in preparing for the event before the team selection. There will also be training days during and after the Xmas holidays and before the competition day.

Registration cutoff date is December 12^th.
