OBITUARY Athletics Auckland and Pakuranga Club stalwart Trevor Cowley passed away on Wednesday 9 July aged 90.
He was a foundation member of the Pakuranga Club in 1967, involved with the children’s athletics as an official, handicapper, coach and an enthusiastic builder assisting the Club with maintenance.
He was Chairman of the senior track and field committee for three years from 2000. He received a service award in 1993 and was made a life member of the Club in 2002.
He was an official with the Auckland Centre for many years and used to take broken hurdles home to repair. He received an Athletics Auckland merit award in 2011.
In his early days he competed in the inaugural 1951-52 season for the East Coast Bays Amateur Athletic Club and transferred to Calliope for the harrier season. He was Calliope Club senior cross country champion in 1957 and 1958. In later years with Pakuranga he competed in cross country and road and with considerable success in masters athletics. ... Trevor converted our garage into a rumpus room and built a carport at our house on Walworth Avenue back in 1985 or so. As a past member of the Pakuranga Club myself, I remember Trevor well.

Very impressive to see that 18 University of Auckland students (athletes of different sports) are heading to the World University Games in Germany, taking place from 16 - 27 July.
Amongst those selected is Lex Revell-Lewis from Waitakere City Athletic Club, who holds the NZ 400m record. Lex will compete in the 400m, 4 x 400m men's relay, and the mixed 4 x 400m relay at the University Games.
Also included amongst the University of Auckland athletes are Isabel Neal, Tommy Te Puni, Hannah Adye, Marielle Venida and Jordyn Blake.
Good luck to all the athletes competing in this competition over the next 2 weeks.
Entries are OPEN for the 2025 NZ 10km Road and Walks Championships!
National titles will be contested for U20, seniors and masters grades over 10km. The nation's top walkers will go head to head over distances of 3 km to 10 km.
The day also features the 5KM Open – PB at AGP, a flat and fast race open to everyone aged 10+. Whether you're chasing a new personal best or just want to be part of the action, all are welcome.
