2020/21 McKinnon Shield

Event dates for the 2020/21 McKinnon Shield are now available on the events page (click here)

There are 10 rounds for the McKinnon Shield in 2020/21 season. These 10 meets are all being held at Herb Towers Track, Mt Smart Stadium.

To compete at a McKinnon Shield you must be 12yrs old as at 31st December in the year of competition e.g.

  • To compete at the five meets prior to Christmas you must be turning or already be 12yrs of age on the 31st December 2020
  • To compete at the five meets after Christmas you must be turning or already be 12yrs of age on the 31st December 2021

For example – I am turning 12yrs old on the 1st January 2021. I cannot compete at a McKinnon Shield meet until after Christmas as before Christmas I am still only 11yrs old as at 31st December in the year of competition (2020).

Below you can find the key information for all the Athletics Auckland Championships for 2020/21. We are working hard to confirm all dates and venues.

3000m Championships

  • Saturday 14th November
  • Venue: Herb Towers Track, Mt Smart Stadium
  • Grades U14, U16, U18, U20, Senior, Masters &Para
  • Entries close on Thursday 12th November at 11.59pm

Combined Events Championships (Heptathlon & Decathlon) 

  • Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th December
  • Venue: Herb Towers Track, Mt Smart Stadium
  • Grades U14, U16, U18, U20, Senior & Masters
  • Entries close: Thursday 17th December at 11.59pm

5000m Championships

  • Saturday 16th January (New Date)

John Walker U20 Invitational Mile – to be held with the Sir Graeme Douglas International Meet

  • Grades – U20 as at 31st December 2021
  • Entries – Once the date is confirmed, Athletics Auckland will send an invitation to all centres to nominate up to three athletes

The key meets for the 2020/21  domestic season are being confirmed by Athletics New Zealand, Athletics Australia and Oceania Athletics. Once these are confirmed you will be able to find all the information here.

Athletics New Zealand Track & Field Championships – Auckland Team Information

Athletics Auckland Senior Track & Field Committee will select a team to compete at the Athletics New Zealand Track & Field Championships. The 2021 Championships are being held at the Mitre 10 Sports Park, Hastings.

Athletics Auckland will select two teams for this competition. The two teams are called Auckland and Counties Manukau. Both teams have had very good results from this event over the last 10 years.
