Message from Papakura Club
Kia ora,
To all Athletics Clubs out there. We usually host a Ribbon day once a year called Ron Keat Day. This event usually attracts more than 300 kids from all different Athletic clubs in Auckland.
To all Athletics Clubs out there. We usually host a Ribbon day once a year called Ron Keat Day. This event usually attracts more than 300 kids from all different Athletic clubs in Auckland.
Here is a brief history of Ron Keat himself. He was our Club President in 1954 but also one of the founders of the club. Not only was he a competitive athlete and represented our club wherever he went, he was also a Life member of our club. Sadly, due to our current Level 3 restrictions we have had to cancel this event which was planned for the 7th November.
As a club and support of NZ Athletics we thought it would be great if we could still host a Ron Keat day in a ‘Virtual’ way called Ron Keat Virtual ribbon day. We would like your club to join in the fun.
See how this will happen below:
- We have chosen to go with our Run, Jump, & Throw theme. events: 60m,100m,200m & Long Jump & Shotput
Advise us of how many athletes from your club will participate in their club singlet on Ron Keat day – across two days – November 6th & 7th - You can choose either Saturday or Sunday. (Event to be run at your own club or any Park or track which is available near you)
- Participating athletes can choose their own event or do all 5. It would be great if someone from your club could start the race (Keep within your bubble of 10) – This is in line with the NZ Athletics guidelines. Once they complete their race(s) they will be given a ribbon.
- Please take a group photo (no more than 10) of participants or individuals holding their ribbons and post on our club event page. As a example #100m #Ronkeatday #Club (i.e your registered club)
- The highest number of athletes from a club will receive a Spot Prize from our PAHC CLUB.
- Another idea is for the Clubs to hand out ribbons to the families and they can run their own races. (But dont forget to post.
- Clubs to email papakura.athletic.club@gmail.com and let us know how many ribbons you would need.
Keep Safe!
Kind regards
(Papakura Athletics and Harriers Club)
