Athletics Auckland Rising Stars - Fano Asiato
“As soon as I picked up the Shot Put, I knew that this is the sport that I would like to pursue. With athletics, it’s all dependent on you as the athlete and how hard you’re willing to work in order to accomplish your goals.
Valerie Adams and Beatrice Faumuina have contributed to my passion for the sport, mainly because they’re of Tongan and Samoan descent, like myself.”
Fano Asiata
💎 SHOT PUT (5KG): 13.89m
💎 DISCUS (1.5KG): 37.77m
💎 HAMMER (5KG): 43.45m
𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡: Deon Wagner (Hammer throw Coach)
𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛: Manurewa
𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭: Shot, Discus, Hammer
𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: I joined Manurewa in 2015, as soon as I picked up the Shot Put, I knew that this is the sport that I would like to pursue as opposed to my friends who’d rather play rugby and basketball. I mainly enjoy the sport because it’s an individual sport, you don’t have to rely on different personalities to achieve the best. With athletics, it’s all dependent on you as the athlete and how hard you’re willing to work in order to accomplish your goals.
𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Dame Valerie Adams and Beatrice Faumuina have contributed to my passion for the sport, mainly because they’re of Tongan and Samoan descent, like myself.
𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭: I am able to converse in English, Samoan Tongan and Māori.
𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧: Definitely getting fitter, stronger and tweaking my technique, so that I am all sorted and ready to reap the rewards.
Favourite 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧: Achieving 3 new PB’s at the North Island U18 Interprovincials 2020 (also captaining the team).
