“Give it your best Shot”
NZ Olympic Committee, with the support of their partners Sport New Zealand, Jennian Homes and a Barfoot and Thompson, ran “Give it your best Shot” community involvement days at Cornwall Park Primary and Remuera Intermediate schools on Monday followed by a public involvement day on Tuesday in the Britomart’s Takutai Square.
The children and public had an opportunity to throw a shot put, check out the weight of the shots for senior athletes and see how far Dame Val and Tomas have thrown the shot.
Several of this year’s Commonwealth Games athletes – from different sports codes – are listed with their best throws.
David Liti – the Olympic Weight Lifter – was at the Britomart event as were TV1’s Breakfast, TV3and other media.
All participants at the public event had opportunity to be named on the leader board, win spot prizes and major prizes overall. Nadja Kumerich and Neil Bartlett were present both days, and Liam Ngchok-Wulf on Tuesday, to show how a shot should be thrown.
At the schools and Britomart the people thoroughly enjoyed themselves – many of the children and adults coming back for more throws.
Although there were some reasonable throws, Dame Val and Tomas can rest easy that their records were not threatened.
After Auckland the road show moves to Rotorua, Wellington and finally Christchurch.
