Lisa Cross broke the New Zealand women’s masters 40-44 record with an impressive run in difficult conditions, cutting out the 10,000m in 34:16.71. This broke Penny Peskett’s 2019 record of 34:30.57. Cross also improved on her previous best of 34:23.51 set in the 2018 Agency 10,000m in Wellington.
Cross, who collected the senior women’s title, said she was not going for a record.
“I was just going for a tempo run, so it is always good to come out with something like that.”
Cross now adds this record to the masters W35 10km road record 35:45 and the W40 5000m 16:26.53.
Next up for Cross is the mountain running championships this week in Christchurch.
New Zealand Para Athlete records were set by Sionann Murphy in the F37 under 20 discus throw with 26.51m, breaking Charli Gardiner-Hall’s record of 24.73m and Brian Wilson in the F20 under 17 shot put and discus throw. He was out to 8.06m with the 5kg shot and 22.76m with the 1.5kg discus, breaking his own records of 7.03m and 20.47m.
Back to back national 400m champion Lex Revell-Lewis gave notice that Shaun Farrell’s 1998 national 400m record of 46.09 is within his reach after convincing wins over 150m in 15.84 and 300m in 33.13.
