Peter’s family have advised there will be a Memorial Service Friday 5 May at 1 pm in the John Walker Lounge, #2 Arena, Mt Smart. Park in Athletes Car Park of O’Rorke Road, Penrose.
Like most of our officials and administrators Peter first became involved in the sport as a parent taking his three children (Brent, Gavin and Natalie) to athletics at the Manurewa Club. But it didn’t take Peter long to join up as a member of the Manurewa Club in 1977 and be elected on to the Track and Field committee of the Club. He was Secretary in 1978 and from 1979 to 1990 was Chairman of the Track and Field committee and was also on the executive of the Club. Peter ran the weekly track and field meetings for four year olds up to masters catering for up to 500 athletes each night. He also ran the Stevenson Shield ribbon days.
Peter was chairman for seven years of the South Auckland Children’s Association (now Counties Manuakau) and organised the South Auckland Children’s championships.
From 1981 to around 2000 Peter officiated at Auckland junior track and field meetings.
Peter joined the Papakura Athletic Club and was a committee member of the Club from 1992 to 1995, and was involved with the weekly club night meetings.
For ten years 1996 to 2006 Peter was heavily involved with the Counties Manukau Track and Field Club on club nights and organising League teams.
Peter has been chairman of Athletics Auckland’s Track and Field committee from 2000 through to 2021 and served on the Board of Athletics Auckland until 2021. He has officiated at Athletics Auckland meetings continuously since 1989.
