Flashback Thursday - 21st May 2020

#FlashbackThursday – This week we’re again in 1993, for the seldom run Mile from the home of Athletics Auckland, Mt Smart Stadium.

The video begins with the late (Sir) Peter Snell and Sir Murray Halberg reminiscing about the famous night at Cooks Garden where Snell set a then world record.

The field for the mile includes Hamish Christensen (1998 Commonwealth Games Representative), John Henwood (2002 Commonwealth Games and 2004 Olympic Games Representative), Robbie Johnston (1994 Commonwealth Games and 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games Representative). Also included in the field are Aucklanders Damien Shirley, Michael Hindmarsh, and Ruben McRae.

Once again the commentary by the doyen of Athletics commentating Brendan Telfer and the dulcet tones of John Davies. Listen carefully for the sounds of Murry McKinnon ringing out as the ground announcer.
