Athletics Auckland (AAI) is very grateful for the scope of works being undertaken by AU which includes
- Removing the current track and asphalt sub-base,
- Installing a network of drains beside and under the track,
- Re-laying the asphalt sub-base and surface for the 2 D’s, LJ/TJ runways and track,
- Re-marking the track.
There is further good news! When the track re-laying project was first mooted by AU, AAI decided that this would be the opportune time to upgrade our #1 Hammer cage. We have been successful in gaining the significant funding to allow the installation of a Thor 10 hammer cage. This will provide us with a much more useable cage for discus and hammer and one far easier to use, erect and maintain.
Overall, in excess of $2 million is being invested in the track and facilities at Mt Smart – which is a fantastic investment resulting from the close, long term relationship between AU and ourselves.
