Ronan Lee, a week after running the 10km lap five at the road relay championships in 30:54, set out with the aim of running 29:30 in the Auckland 10,000m championships. Redd Scampion set the early pace before Jack Paine took over the role of pacing Lee, before letting Lee on his own over the final laps.
Lee finished strongly in 30:53.17. Kieran Coates was second in a PB 33:01.49.
Amy Thomson aged 16 broke the Auckland under 18 10,000m record by two and half minutes, recording an outstanding 36:16.43 for her age. Casey Mitchell of Pukekohe held the previous record of 38:51.77 set in 2007
