Auckland Results - McKinnon Shield & Potts Classic
McKinnon Shield – Herb Towers Track, Mt Smart Stadium – Saturday 23rd January
Over 220 athletes competed in round 7 of the McKinnon Shield at Herb Towers Track. The majority of the athletes that were competing are preparing for the U16 & U18 Interprovincials to be hosted by Auckland at AU Millennium Stadium next Saturday. Once again there was a large turnout from our Masters athletes.
Highlights included
- Joshua Hawkins – 13.79 (+3.4) in the Senior Men 110m Hurdles
- James Guthrie-Croft – 10.69 (+3.1) in the Senior Men 100m
- Talia van Rooyen – 12.21 (+3.2) in the U16 Women 100m
- Charlotte Goldsmith – 5.43m (+7.2) in the U16 Women Long Jump

Potts Classic (Oceania Area Permit Meet)- Mitre10 Sports Park, Hastings – Saturday 23rd January
The second Oceania Area Permit meet of the season was held in Hastings. over 60 Auckland athletes made the trip south to compete at one of the best country meets in New Zealand.
Highlights included
- Alana Barber in the 20000m Race Walk. Her time of 1:37:44.95 was an Athletics New Zealand Allcomers, National and Resident Record. Alana now heads to Adelaide for the Oceania 20km Championships on the 14th February
- Connor Bell threw 64.29m in the Discus to break the Athletics New Zealand Resident. The resident record was set by Ian Winchester of Counties Manuaku in Hamilton on the 31st January 1998. Connor is creeping closer to Ian’s Auckland and National record of 65.03m
- In the Athletics New Zealand 3000m Championships, Anneke Grogan of North Harbour Bays finished 3rd with a performance of 9:58.34
- Olivia McTaggart equaled her PB in the Pole Vault in tricky wind with a jump of 4.50m
- Dame Valerie Adams got the Shot out to 18.34m
