Mt Smart Stadium – 14 December 2024
The wind at Mt Smart tends to play tricks with Tommy Te Puni. On a perfectly calm day, with earlier races recording legal winds, Te Puni’s 100m victory in 10.34 came with a following wind of 2.7.
He was back in action later in the programme winning the 200m in a legal 20.77. Zachary Saunders was second on both occasions in 10.58 and 21.27.
Matthew Alty went under two minutes for the first time in the 800m in 1:58.46 in finishing second to Daniel Hayes who won in a debut 1:53.87.
Camryn Smart, national 400m champion in 2021 and third in last season’s nationals, debuted over 800m with an impressive run of 2:12.68. Leah Marais (14) cut five seconds off her previous best finishing second in 2:17.45.
Livvy Wilson won the 100m in 11.81 from Hastings athlete Kiana Pohe who recorded a PB 12.22. Alana Mathews set her best time of 16:41.69 in the 3000m race walk.
Estelle Short from the Cook Islands sprinted to a career best of 25.59 in the 200m with Sienna Moyle also setting her best of 25.62 in second.
